  • The Roman sumptuary law, the Lex Oppia, is repealed despite Cato's strong opposition.
  • Native residents of the Roman colony Ferentinum apply for Roman citizenship, but are turned down by the Senate.
  • Ahead of Roman envoys demanding his surrender, Hannibal flees Carthage for refuge at Tyre. There he offers his services to Antiochus III, King of the Seleucid Empire, against Rome.
