2046 (movie)
2046 is a forthcoming Hong Kong movie written and directed by Wong Kar-wai, starring Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, Zhang Zi-yi, Wong Faye, Chang Chen and Takuya Kimura. It is Wong's first science fiction film.The year 2046 is 50 years after the handover of Hong Kong in 1997, a possible allusion the Mainland government's promise of fifty years of self-regulation for the former British colony.
Additionally, 2046 is the number of the hotel room in In the Mood for Love in which Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung's characters meet to write their kung fu serial.
As of October 2003, the movie is in production.
