Adhesion contract

An adhesion contract is a contract between two parties that does not allow for negotiation, i.e. take it or leave it. It is often a contract that is entered into between unequal bargaining partners, such as when an individual consumer has a form contract thrust into her hand by the salesperson of a multinational corporation. The consumer is in no position to negotiate the standard terms of such contracts.

Some courts look askance at such agreements as they sometimes contain terms that are added only for the benefit of the business entity that is making a large profit on the consumer. They do not take into consideration the inability of the individual to present alternatives to the business or to negotiate different terms.
