Aquila al-Hashimi

Aquila al-Hashimi (d. September 25, 2003) was one of three women on the U.S-appointed Iraqi Governing Council.

Al-Hashimi served in the Foreign Ministry under Saddam Hussein, the only member of the former regime to also have been in the 25-member Council.

She died of abdomen wounds suffered five days earlier when her convoy was ambushed by six men in a pickup truck near her home in western Baghdad.

Unmarried, al-Hashimi was thought to be in her mid-40s.
