Battle of Evesham

The Battle of Evesham took place on August 4 1265, and was the decisive battle in the Baron's War, where Simon de Montfort led a number of rebellious barons against the Royalist forces led by Prince Edward (later King Edward I of England). de Montfort was encumbered by a number of unreliable allies, particularly the Welsh, who deserted before the battle commenced. Confronted by a force four times the size of his own, on unfavourable ground, the outcome rapidly turned into a massacre.
