Black Power

Black Power is an African-American movement that arose in the 1960s focused on resisting discrimination independently from organizations that include white people. Black Power organizations emphasize self-defense tactics, political and economic self-determination, and racial pride. The most famous exponents of Black Power were the Black Panther Party. While still in existence today, the movement was mostly defused and dispersed in the late 70s.

The first person to use the term in its political context was Robert Williams, a writer and publisher of the 1950s and 60s.
