Bob Livingston

Bob Livingston, born Robert Linligthgow Livingston, Jr., April 30, 1943.

A Republican United States Representative from Louisiana's conservative First District, Livingston remained a representative from 1977 to 1999. He served as Chairman for the Committee on Appropriations during the 104th and 105th Congresses, and was Speaker-Elect in 1998.

During the Bill Clinton presidency and the Monica Lewinsky scandals, Livingston was one of many Republicans who demanded Clinton's impeachment for having an affair. Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt, who detested the Republican focus on Clinton's sex life, placed an article in Hustler offering up to $1,000,000 for information on sexual indiscretions by Republican officials.

Flynt received evidence that Livingston had strayed outside of his marriage on many occasions, and was preparing to publish this information. Livingston found out that Flynt had secured the evidence of his infidelity, and on December 17, 1998, Livingston held a press conference, announcing that he had committed "indiscretions" outside of his marriage and resigning his position as Representative and Speaker-Elect.
