\nBrown County is a county located in the State of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 226,778. The county seat is Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Geography

\nAccording to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,594 km² (615 mi²). 1,369 km² (529 mi²) of it is land and 225 km² (87 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 14.10% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census2 of 2000, there are 226,778 people, 87,295 households, and 57,527 families residing in the county. The population density is 166/km² (429/mi²). There are 90,199 housing units at an average density of 66/km² (171/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.14% White, 1.16% Black or African American, 2.29% Native American, 2.18% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.90% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. 3.84% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 87,295 households out of which 33.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.20% are married couples living together, 8.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.10% are non-families. 26.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.08. In the county, the population is spread out with 26.10% under the age of 18, 10.50% from 18 to 24, 31.90% from 25 to 44, 20.90% from 45 to 64, and 10.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 98.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.90 males.
