Central and Western district
The Central and Western district is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. Population (2000): 274,400.Central is the central business area, or financial district, of Hong Kong. Western is one of the areas of early development in Hong Kong. Both are located in the northern part of Hong Kong Island.

Central was the site of Victoria City, the first British urban settlement in Hong Kong. In 1857, the British government expanded Victoria City and divided it into seven districts. The ones located in present-day Central and Western are: Sai Ying Pun, Sheung Wan, Tai Ping Shan, Central.
In 1880, Shek Tong Tsui was established, followed by Kennedy Town in the 20th century.
The district lies along the northwestern shoreline of Hong Kong Island. It is surrounded by Wan Chai district on the east, Southern District on the south, and Victoria harbour in the north.
Areas from west to east along Victoria Harbour are: Kennedy Town, Sai Ying Pun, Sheung Wan, Central, Admiralty.
