Change management is the process of developing a planned approach to change in an organization. In particular, this concept has been developed in the fields of:

• Organizational development (OD)

and

• Information technology aka IT

In the field of Organizational development (or OD), change management is thought of by some as the sine qua non of OD, where OD is defined as "planned change."

Change management in IT

In IT, change management refers to a structured review process for any proposed changes to systems, applications or databases.
