Compassionate conservatism

Compassionate conservatism is a phrase, most notably used by George W. Bush during his campaign up to 2000. It was considered his strategy to counter the pereception of the Republican Party being impersonal and cool to the needs of common citizens.

The name and concepts can be traced to Marvin Olasky, whose book Compassionate Conservatism: What it is, What it Does, and How it Can Transform America was published in 2000. Olasky has been called the "godfather of compassionate conservatism."
