Cynic (band)

Cynic is a band that started in Florida, America, in 1987 by vocalist/guitarist Paul Masvidal, guitarist Jason Gobel, bassist Mark Van Erp, and drummer Sean Reinert.

Mark van Erp was replaced by Tony Choy and the band recorded various demos. The first demos have a conservative death metal sound, but it changes to highly complex, experimental and extremely technical metal in later demos. Many influences from jazz and fusion can be heard in their first record Focus, recorded in 1993, with new bass player Sean Malone.

After a European tour shortly later the band broke up.
