Denise Majette
Denise Majette (born
May 18,
1955),
American politician, was elected as a
Democratic member of the
United States House of Representatives in
2003 to represent the Fourth Congressional District of
Georgia. Born in
Brooklyn,
New York, she attended
Yale University and completed a
Law degree in
Duke University in
1979. A resident of Georgia since
1983, she was appointed by Governor Zell Miller to the State Court of
DeKalb County in
1993. She resigned the position in 2002 to run for Congress and was elected in 2003, after defeating Representative
Cynthia McKinney in the Democratic
primary. She is a member of the
Congressional Black Caucus.
