Dol Guldur

In the fictional world of Tolkien, Dol Guldur, or Hill of Sorcery, was a stronghold of Sauron located in the south of Mirkwood. It was once abandoned when the Council of the Wise discovered Sauron lurking there, but when the One Ring reappeared, and Sauron's strength was renewed, the fortress was came back into use. It was also here that Gandalf found Thrain in the dungeons and was intrusted the map and key to give to Thorin.

It was destroyed after the War of the Ring.
