Dot pitch

Dot Pitch is a specification for a computer display that describes the diagonal distance between phosphor dots of the same color on the inside of a display screen. Measured in millimeters, a smaller number means a sharper image, since there are more dots per millimeter.

For example, a display with a dot pitch of .24 will have four dots per linear millimeter, and a .20 dot pitch display will have five dots per linear millimeter.

Older display screens used a diagonal dot pitch measurement, but since horizontal measurements are smaller in this comparison, monitors have used horizontal dot pitch since the mid-1990's as a marketing point.
