East Hampton, New York

East Hampton is a wealthy community on the southern coast of Long Island, New York, known for its green farmland next to scenic beaches, and its many famous residents. It consists of the town of East Hampton, and the smaller, more exclusive, village of East Hampton.

In 1648, East Hampton was founded by farmers and until the mid-1800.'s, remained a quiet farming community. In the late 1800s, it began to develop as a resort for the wealthy.

In 2000, it has become a major summer weekend destination for New York City residents, aspiring for the life of the rich and famous. The area around East Hampton is also referred to colloquially as "The Hamptons."
