Egyptology

Egyptology, a sub-field of archaeology, is the science or study of Egyptianian antiquities, esp. Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Egyptology investigates the range of Ancient Egyptian advanced culture (language, literature, history, religion, art, economics, and ethics) of the Egyptian history from the 5th millennium BC up to the end of Roman rule in the 4th century AD.

Modern Egyptology begins in the year 1822, when Jean-François Champollion deciphered the Egyptian hieroglyphics from the Rosetta Stone. Only with knowledge of Egyptian writing and language was it possible to study Ancient Egyptian culture.\n
