Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson (born April 15, 1990) is a British actress who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001) and its sequel Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002). Her acting has been widely considered to be of a very high standard.

Watson was named after a close family friend (or relative, according to some sources) of the same name. She began showing interest in acting as soon as she entered school and began to participate in several plays, a poetry competition, and even on a video production they made. However, she had no professional acting experience prior to her being cast as Hermione.

She has most recently starred in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which opened in November 2002. As a result of her critically acclaimed performance in this film, on 14 January 2003, she won the award for "Best Performance by a Youth in a Lead or Supporting Role - Female" in the Phoenix Film Critics Awards [1].

A myth that she is known to her family as "Emma Watson (II)" came about through her being included in the Internet Movie Database under that name. The Roman numeral simply indicates that she was the second actress named Emma Watson in their database.

Emma Watson is also a fictional character in Jane Austen's unfinished novel The Watsons. Joan Aiken's 1996 novel Emma Watson: The Watsons Completed features characters from that work, and although it is often described as a "completion" of Austen's work, Aiken also rewrote the opening part. In an ironic twist, Jane Austen happens to be one of the favortie authors of J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books, who named Mrs. Norris after one of Austen's charactors.
