Equus

Equus is a play by Peter Shaffer which tells the story of a psychiatrist who attempts to treat a young man who has a horrible fascination with horses.

It was once a Broadway play in the early 1970s starring Anthony Hopkins and Peter Firth. Later, Tom Hulce would play the role of Alan Strang and Richard Burton would replace Hopkins as Martin Dysart.

The play was made into a 1977 film which stars Richard Burton, Peter Firth, Colin Blakely, Joan Plowright and Jenny Agutter.

The movie was adapted by Shaffer, and directed by Sidney Lumet.

It was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Richard Burton), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Peter Firth) and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.
