Fang

The Fang are a west African people. They are the majority ethnic group in Equatorial Guinea and one of the major groups in Gabon (particularly in the north), with smaller numbers in southern Cameroon. Fang is also the name of their Bantu language.

The Fang religion is monotheistic. Around the early 20th century, the Fang were visited by Christian missionaries, whose teachings they incorporated into their own belief system. They were also influenced by the Mitsogo. Most Fang are now Christian.

The Fang are noted for their art, especially their carvings and sculptures. In the colonial period they used copper and iron money. They now live mainly by farming (notably cocoa) and fishing.

Fang is a transliteration of Chinese Family Names 方,防,房 etc.
