Flag of Afghanistan

This flag is similar to the one flown in Afghanistan between 1930 and 1973. The difference is the addition of the shahada at the top of the coat-of-arms in the center. This new flag was adopted by the transitional Authority of Afghanistan in 2002. The older flag of Afghanistan may be readopted if monarchy is reintroduced to Afghanistan.

This flag consists of three stripes of the colors black, red and green. This has been present on almost all flags of Afghanistan other than some in the last twenty years. The center emblem is the classical Afghani one of a mehrab facing Mecca and a pulpit next to it.
