Foodtown

Foodtown is probably the most upmarket supermarket chain in New Zealand. There are not many foodtown supermarkets throughout the country, though they do offer online shopping.

Although relatively large, Foodtown supermarkets have a separate location for their stock, not storing it on the same shelves that it is purchased. Foodtown supermarkets also tend to be integrated with a shopping mall, and not as stand-alone shops.

Foodtown is usually fully featured with its own deli and bakery. They were one of the first supermarkets to introduce loyalty cards in New Zealand.

The supermarkets are well staffed, and lighting and presentation are a priority. They also will sell more obscure and exotic products that some other supermarkets.

For these reasons, the average cost of Foodtown is greater than some other New Zealand supermarkets. They are owned by Progressive Enterprises.
