Heber

Heber or Eber (עבר) was the patriarch mentioned in the Biblical "Table of Nations" from whom the Hebrews descended. He was the son of Salah, the son of Arpaxad, according to the Septuagint, son of Qainan (קינן). British legends ascribe him a Magogite ancestry. The name suggests nomadism and migration. It is thought that the Horites were a related people, and that originally both Heberite & Horite languages were almost identical. It is clear that these languages show some affinity with Caucasian languages like that of the Avars. Many Heberites were dispersed among northwestern Afro-Asiatic peoples such as the Canaanites and Arabs. Records of Hurrian (Horite Language) remain to this day, though the Heberite language is lost, remaining only as the dialectical differences Hebrew has from Ugaritic (Canaanite).

According to tradition, Heber was also the name of one of Magog's descendants who were supposed to have occupied the Iberian peninsula, and Ireland (Hibernia) giving their name to each of them. According to Greek legend (?from Dionysius Periestis's comments on Hesperides), Iberians were actually refugees from Atlantis (thus according to Plato related to the first dynasties to rule Egypt). None of this can be reconciled with the Biblical narratives which maintain that Heber was the patriarch of all Hebrews and a grandchild of Arphaxad, son of Shem, unless the Hebrews were of a Magogite Maternal line and a Arphaxad paternal line. On the other hand, the legend that Avars might have originally been Caucasus Hebrews with Abraham's third wife Keturah in their ancestry does not fit with biblical traditions.

In the Quran, Heber is known as Hud and thus Hebrews are refered to as Eldhyn Hudwe (those of Hud).
