Hectare

A hectare (symbol ha) is a metric unit of surface area, equal to 100 ares (the name is a contraction of the SI prefix hecto + are). It is a non-SI unit currently accepted (although discouraged) for use with the SI.

One hectare is equivalent to:

  • 100 ares
  • 10 000 square metres
  • 0.01 square kilometres
  • 2.471 053 8 international acres
  • 2.471 043 9 U.S. survey acres

Conversely:
  • 100 hectares is equal to one square kilometre.
  • 0.404 685 64 hectares is equal to one international acre
  • 0.404 687 26 hectares is equal to one U.S. survey acre
