Indoor bandy
Indoor bandy is a game that has some superficial similarity to field hockey. Designed as a fun game for players of disparate skill levels and cheap equipement, the burgeoning of the game in the Scandinavian student circles has gradually transformed the game. Nowadays the equipement employ space age materials science with commensurate prices; and the top players are well paid professionals.
Equipement
The ball is made from plastic, has a radius 72 mm, and weighs 27 grams. Indoor bandy sticks are lightweight and generally made of plastic, fibreglass or composite materials. The rink is 20 meters by 40 meters and is enclosed by 50 cm high boards. The floor surface can be any regular gym surface such as is used for volleyball or basketball
The goal is 115 cm high, and 160 cm wide. The goalie hasn't got a stick, but is the only player allowed to wear light protective pads on e.g. their elbows and knees. An area around the goal is designated which may not be entered by anyone except the goalie.
In addition to the goalie there are five fieldplayers on either team. Players may be changed freely on the fly as in ice hockey. Games consist of 3 quarters of either 15 minutes or 20 minutes (in premier league play).
Tackles or use of the stick for anything other than playing the ball aren't allowed. There is no off-side rule. Infractions are penalized by penalty shots or forcing a team to play with fewer players for a designated time.
