Islamic party
An Islamic party are those political parties that promote Islam as a political movement by running for elections in a democracy - of which there are several in the Islamic world. They are important to distinguish from militant Islamic groups that do not run for election.There is however, much overlap, and some parties or are claimed by opponents to follow, the fringe ideology of Islamism (to the degree that this exists separate from Islam itself) that is directly confrontational with the Western world. Most do not, and some have formed mainstream governments under secular constitutions - notably in Turkey.
