Islamic Salvation Front
The Islamic Salvation Front (French: Front Islamique du Salut) is an illegal political party in Algeria. It is an islamist party.It was founded in February 1989 by Abbassi Madani and Ali Belhadj. It won the first round of the December 1991 and in response the Front for National Liberation cancelled the elections. Civil unrest followed and the FIS was banned in March 1992.
