It's My Party

"It's My Party" is a song popularized by singer Lesley Gore in the 1950s. It was written by authors Gold/Gluck Jr./Wiener. The song lyrically portrays the emotional downfall of a teenage girl who is humiliated by the discovery that her boyfriend has left her for another girl.

Oh, what a birthday surprise: Judy's wearing his ring.
It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to.
You would cry, too, if it happened to you."

The song was covered by Bryan Ferry on the album These Foolish Things.
It's My Party is also one of the first films (1996) to address the topic of AIDS patients dying with dignity. Starring some major Hollywood talent (including Olivia Newton John, Margaret Cho, Bronson Pinchot, Devon Gummersall, Steve Antin, Bruce Davison, Gregory Harrison and in the lead, Eric Roberts) the film chronicled a two day party hosted by Roberts' character who has been given just a short time to live. The character, who will fall into a state of mental lapse for months before his death, decides instead to host a party for all of his family and friends. At the end of the second day, he intends to commit suicide by taking sleeping pills, and die in their company.

The film was written and directed by Randal Kleiser.
