Jan Karon

Jan Karon, born Janice Meredith Wilson (1937), is an American author.

Born in Lenoir, North Carolina, her novels are set in the fictional community of Mitford, North Carolina. In publication order they are:

  • At Home at Mitford, published 1994
  • A Light in the Window, published 1995
  • These High, Green Hills, published 1997
  • Out to Canaan, published 1999
  • A New Song, published 2000
  • A Common Life: the Wedding Story, published 2001

Her books for children are:
  • Miss Fannie's Hat, published 1998
  • Jeremy, the tale of an honest bunny, published 2000
  • The Mitford Snowmen, published 2001

Other books:
  • Patches of Godlight: Father Tim's favorite quotes, published 2001, religious quotes used in the Mitford series.

Karon retired from a career in advertising to write. Among her awards are an ABBY Honor award for books in the Mitford series.
