Jazz on a Summer's Day

Jazz on a Summer's Day is a 1959 documentary film set at the Newport Jazz Festival, mixing images of water and the city with the performers and audience at the festival. Performers included Jimmy Giuffre, Thelonious Monk, Henry Grimes, Sonny Stitt, Sal Salvador, Anita O'Day, George Shearing, Dinah Washington, Gerry Mulligan, Big Maybelle, Chuck Berry, Chico Hamilton, Louis Armstrong, Jack Teagarden, Mahalia Jackson, Bob Brookmeyer, Buck Clayton, Willis Conover, Art Farmer, Jo Jones and Armando Pareza.

The movie was written by Albert D'Annibale and Arnold Perl and directed by Bert Stern. In 1999 the film was deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
