Jean Stapleton

Jean Stapleton (born January 19, 1923) is an American actress, best known for her portrayal of the long-suffering yet devoted wife and mother Edith Bunker on the popular and groundbreaking 1970s sitcom All in the Family.

She has also acted on Broadway and in many other stage productions, as well as acting in made-for-TV movies and feature films such as Cold Turkey.

Stapleton was born in New York City. She is not related to Maureen Stapleton.
