Jim Jones

James Warren "Jim" Jones (May 13, 1923 - November 18, 1978) was the founder of the People's Temple, a religious group that originally advocated social justice, but later turned into a cult when Jim Jones brought into it his dictatorship, and fanatical viewpoints and practice. Jones then founded Jonestown in Guyana; the town was a closed-in society of Jones' followers, where Jim Jones and all of Jonestown committed suicide on Jones's instructions by drinking cyanide-laced Flavor-aid (a Kool-aid imitation) in 1978.
