Lakmé (1883) is an opera by Leo Delibes about a girl named Lakmé who lives in India with her father. She has a handmaid named Mailika who sings the "Flower Duet" with her on the riverbank. It is a beautiful song that is carefree and melodic. Lakmé is in love with a man in India and is afraid that her father will find out about it.
