Lancaster, England

Lancaster (pop. 1991 ca. 44,500) is a city and district in Lancashire, North West England. The city is located on the river Lune and the Lancaster Canal. It was the administrative centre of Lancashire until 1974. Lancaster Castle, partly built in the 13th century and enlarged by Elizabeth I, stands on the site of a Roman garrison. It is the site of the Pendle Witches trial. Thomas Covell was the governor of Lancaster Prison at that time.....

On a campus a short distance south of the city is Lancaster University, a respected national university.
