Limburgian dialect

The Limburgian Dialect (Dutch: Limburgs, German: Limburgisch) is spoken in the southern Limburg province of the Netherlands. Each municipality in this region has its own form of the language. For example there is Nederweerts, Maastrichts, Houthems, Kerkraads, Venlos (with many standard Dutch words) , Valkenburgs , Meerssens and many more. The dialect is a blend of Dutch and German with some French influence also.

The dialect is spoken by approximately 1,000,000 people in the Dutch province Limburg. Another 610,000 speakers can be found below the border in the Belgian province of Limburg, and in a region of Germany called Selfkant (around Aachen). The Belgian form of the language has much more French influence than the Dutch one.
