Lingnan University

The original Lingnan University in Guangzhou was a private university established by a group of Americans in 1888. The management was turned over to the Chinese in 1927 and in the 30s it had developed to become a globally recognized institution.

Its site had changed several times. It moved to Macau in 1900, and then back to Guangzhou in 1904. And then it went south to Hong Kong in 1937, went to Shaoguan in northern Guangdong in 1942. After World War II, the university was finally back to Guangzhou.

In 1953, the university was incorporated into Zhongshan University

The Lingnan University in Hong Kong is the youngest local university. It was formerly known as the Lingnan College until it was granted full university status on July 30, 1999.

The Lingnan College was established in 1967 and in 1995 it moved to its present campus in Tuen Mun.
