List of national parks of the Republic of China
The
National Park Act of the
Republic of China was passed in l972 to protect the nature, wildlife, and history. There are six national parks in ROC:
- Kenting National Park, the oldest; the southernmost
- Yushan National Park, the largest; central
- Yangmingshan National Park, the smallest on Taiwan; has a volcanic landform; the northernmost
- Taroko National Park: marble gorge, east
- Shei-Pa National Park: brook masu salmon (Oncorhychus masou formosanum); on east coast
- Kinmen National Park: historical battle-fields; only one not on Taiwan
The total area of these six national parks is more than 239,407,000 hectares (about 227,336 acres), approximately 8.43 percent of Taiwan's total area.
