Lost Girls
Lost Girls is an interesting - adult - fictional take on the future lives of three of the most memorable female fictional characters of the late 19th and early 20th Century. Namely, Alice from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz, and Wendy Darling from Peter Pan. They ostensibly meet as adults in 1913, to describe and share some of their erotic adventures with each other, as "The series is an attempt to reinvent pornography as something exquisite, thoughtful and human".The story is written by Alan Moore, and drawn by Melinda Gebbie (who also created and drew The Cobweb series of stories for Tomorrow Stories, part of Mr Moore's America's Best Comics line).
It is a further skewed vision of a possible Wold Newton family, a concept which Moore also explores in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Lost Girls should finally see print from Top Shelf in late 2003/early 2004, after having graced the pages of Taboo magazine, and Kitchen Sink Press/Tundra, who reprinted the six Taboo chapters as two separate volumes. A scheduled ten-issue series, due to problems at Kitchen Sink, Lost Girls was presumed lost, but Mr Moore and Ms Gebbie decided to take the time to finish it, then profer it to various companies as a finished product. "In May 2000, Top Shelf Productions was chosen as the publishing company, and provided a tentative release date of the series for the Summer/Fall of 2001. The collection would now be published in 3 full-color, hardcover volumes, with a slipcase to collect the volumes once all were published".
