Lusaka

Lusaka is the capital city of Zambia. It is located in south central Zambia on a plateau at 4200 feet in altitude. Population (1990) 982,362.

Lusaka was founded in 1905 by European settlers. In 1935 it replaced Livingstone as the capital of Northern Rhodesia, a British colony. In 1964 it became the capital of the newly independent Zambia.

On March 1, 1999 four bombs detonated in Lusaka, one of which destroyed the Angolan Embassy.
