Macquarie University

Macquarie University is an institution of higher learning located in the north-western suburbs of Sydney, Australia. (North Ryde to be exact.) The University is named for colonial Governor Lachlan Macquarie. Founded in 1965, it was Sydney's third university. It is adjacent to the Macquarie Centre, a large shopping centre for the district.

In 1990 it absorbed the Institute of Early Childhood Studies of the Sydney College of Advanced Education, under the terms of the Higher Education (Amalgamation) Act 1989.

Transport to and from the university is primarily by bus and car, but an increasing number of students ride bicycles or live in or near campus, making walking an effective option. The construction of a new subway station at the university, part of the Parammata Rail Link, is currently underway, which will alleviate transport headaches.
