Memorial Cup

The Memorial Cup is the trophy awarded to the national junior men's (under 21) hockey champion of Canada. It was donated in 1919 by the Ontario Hockey Association as a memorial to the Canadian dead of World War I.

The Memorial Cup tournament is now restricted to members of the Canadian Hockey League – the champions of the Ontario Hockey League, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and the Western Hockey League, plus a second team from the host league. The American members of the league are eligible to play, and American teams have won the Cup three times.
