National Film and Television School

The National Film and Television School in the United Kingdom was established in 1971 to train human resources in film and television related fields. From 1967 to 1971 North Thames Gas Board leased the premises as a warehouse until the NFTS purchased the freehold from Kings College, Cambridge for £225,000 and moved in with a 100% mortgage from the Rank Organisation and the running costs grant aided partly by the government (the Office of Arts and Libraries which later became the Department of National Heritage) and partly through the Eady Levy. In 1986 the Eady Levy Act was repealed. The NFTS has since been funded by the Government, via (today) the Department for Culture Media and Sport, and the television and film industries.
