Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers, or Huskers, form the college football team at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The term properly applies to any sports team at the school, but without any other qualifier, it almost always refers to the football team, which currently competes in the Big Twelve Conference.

Husker football has been around since 1890 and has claimed 46 conference championships and national championships in 1970, 1971, 1994, 1995, and 1997, with the latter three marking the only time that a team has won three NCAA Division I-A national titles in four seasons. Famous former Huskers included Heisman Trophy winners Johnny Rogers, Mike Rozier, and Eric Crouch.

The most famous coach in Cornhusker history is Tom Osborne, who led the team from 1973 to 1997. Osborne was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Nebraska's 3rd Congressional District in November of 2000.
