Pérez Prado

Damaso Perez Prado (December 11 1916 - September 14, 1989) was a was a Cuban bandleader who helped popularized the mambo. He spent most of his career in Mexico.

Perez Prado was born in Matanzas.

His popularity in the United States matched the peak of the first wave of interest in Latin music outside of Latino communities during the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s.

Perez Prado also appeared in films in the United States and Europe as well as in Mexican cinema.

He died at the age of 72 in Mexico City.
