Peter Garrett

Peter Garrett is the former lead singer of the Australian rock band Midnight Oil. He left the band in December of 2002 after twenty-nine years with them. His stated reason for leaving the band was to focus more fully on his environmental and social activism.

Garrett has worked with several environmental organisations, including serving as president for the Australian Conservation Foundation from 1989 to 1993 and began another term as president in 1998. He also joined the International Board of Greenpeace in 1993

In 2000 he was awarded the Australian Humanitarian Foundation Award in the Environment category. In 2001 was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of New South Wales.
