Politiken is a Danish broadsheet newspaper.

Dagbladet Politiken was founded October 1, 1884, in Copenhagen by Viggo Hørup, Edvard Brandes and Hermann Bing. Originally with a daily circulation of 2,000 copies.

The daily edition of Politiken has 505,000 readers making it the third-most read newspaper in Denmark after Jyllands-Posten and the tabloid B.T.

The Sunday edition of Politiken has 552,000 readers.

Politiken Weekly is the international edition of Politiken.

Published with the goal of being an independent mouthpiece of the Danish left wing (Social-Democratic and Social-Liberal) politics.

Published by JP/Politikens Hus (En: "House of JP/Politiken" or "Politiken Corporation").

JP/Politikens Hus also publishes:

  • The tabloid Ekstra Bladet
  • The broadsheet Jyllands-Posten
  • Habar, a newspaper with articles in Danish and in Turkish

As of January 1, 2003, Dagbladet Politiken merged with the other significant Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten. The merger was administrative, and both papers keep their editorial independence.
