Relic (novel)

Relic is a 1996 novel by Douglas J. Preston and Lincoln Child. Set in the New York Museum of Natural History and its surrounding area, Lieutenant D'Agosta must solve a string of brutal murders in the Museum days before a massive exhibition is set to open. How are the murders connected to a doomed expedition several years earlier?

D'Agosta is aided by several people during his investigation including Margo Green, her advisor, Dr. Frock, and the ambitious journalist, William Smithback, Jr.. This novel also introduces the seminal and resourceful FBI Special Agent Pendergast.

Thoroughly researched and eerily beleivable, Relic was hailed by critics and was a New York Times Bestseller. Relic was followed by a bestselling sequel, Reliquary.

A film based on the book was released in 1997, but changed several aspects of the book, omitted numerous characters and changed the setting to the Chicago Museum of Natural History.
