Roman Catholic Bishop of Brooklyn

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, which includes territory that was previously part of the Diocese of New York, was established as a separate diocese in 1853.

The following is a list of the Roman Catholic Bishops of the Diocese of Brooklyn (and their terms of service)

  • Bishop John Loughlin (1853-1891)
  • Bishop Charles E. McDonnell (1892-1921)
  • Bishop Thomas E. Molloy (1922-1956), made a titular Archbishop in 1951
  • Bishop Bryan J. McEntegart (1957-1968) made titular Archbishop in 1966
  • Bishop Francis J. Mugavero (1968-1990)
  • Bishop Thomas V. Daily (1990-2002)
  • Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, (2003-present)
