Santa Barbara City College

Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) is a two-year community college founded in 1909. It is located on a 74-acre campus right over the beach in the city of Santa Barbara, California. SBCC offers associate degrees in arts, sciences, business programs, and occupational and technological training. It operates on an "open-door" policy that allows anyone over eighteen with the equivalent of a high-school degree to attend -- thus it allows students with incomplete or poor records to improve their grades and track record before transferring to the University of California, California State University, and other four-year colleges.

As of 2003, SBCC enrolls 12,000 students in credit programs (with another 17,000 non-credit students in its Continuing Education programs). It is currently led by President Peter MacDougall.

The college has invested a great deal in technology infrastructure in recent years, installing a fiber-optic network and improving computer systems and Internet connectivity campus-wide. This has allowed an expansion in the number of courses available online, or with online supplements.
