Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was an Indian statesman and the commander in chief of the Indian National Congress next to Mohandas Gandhi. Due to his efforts, the Congress registered 100% victory in elections in 1937. Sardar Patel was the would-be Prime Minister of India supported by most of Congress members. Only on persuasion from Gandhi, he stepped back from the Prime Ministerial Candidate election and left the path open for Jawaharlal Nehru.
